EAST

This film explores the representation and interpretation of traditional culture. Through the lens of Syrian and Japanese culture, both ends of the Asian continent, the filmmakers comment on the loss of culture through modernisation and westernisation.

ART DIRECTION AND PRODUCING BY MOMO SAKAI
DESIGN AND MODEL MAKING BY JIDA AKI AND SAKI UCHISHIBA

WORK FLOW--------------

I was doing producer roll for this project.  whenever I'm a producer, I try not to be opinionated because I think a producer is a middle person or balancer for the work. I tried to listen what the designer wants to do and try my best to make it happen. Also, organise scheduling and equipments is my job too.  I think producers needs to see what is going to happen one step ahead of everyones. For example, we made two model boxes and wanted to shot from inside like as the camera lens is audience eyesight. Because we did not know what kind of camera we can use that time, I booked book small camera and test how it is. In the end, we found out that the cameras provided by unit leader was too big to shoot inside of the model boxes.
As budgets wise, I did not know if we can get the budgets and how much it is. I should have communicate with Chuck more so I can figure out things more easily because we took time to sort out how we ask refunds.

I was a videographer too. This is the first time to do it so I leaned a lot. Especially with lighting we spent whole morning to set up and make sure it is fine on the camera. Because we wanted to have natural light such as sunlight and artificial light such as inside of the model house boxes, it made difficult to set up everything.
We could only have 1 day to shoot everything so I schedule carefully and we could finish to shoot everything on time.
